Visiting the Blue Lagoon in Ekero was an experience that left me with mixed feelings. With its stunning natural beauty and opportunities for both relaxation and activity, it’s a place worth visiting. However, certain aspects of the experience could be improved to make it even more enjoyable. Here’s a reflection on my visit, rated at 3 stars overall.
Ambience and Experience
The Blue Lagoon is undoubtedly a paradise for those looking to unwind and enjoy nature. The serene environment, surrounded by lush greenery and tranquil waters, provides an excellent setting for a family outing or a day with friends. Whether you’re training for a swim or simply floating in the water, the lagoon’s ambiance is perfect for both activities. The experience of being immersed in such a beautiful and calming place is truly rejuvenating.
Parking Woes
One of the biggest challenges I faced was parking. With 90% of the entry points for private vehicles closed, finding a spot became a daunting task. I ended up parking my car 2.1 kilometers away and had to walk to the destination. This walk, although scenic, can be inconvenient, especially if you are carrying picnic supplies or traveling with young children. A better option is to take the bus, which stops about a kilometer from the lagoon. This reduces the walking distance, making it more manageable for everyone.
Cleanliness Concerns
The most disheartening part of my visit was witnessing the pollution caused by some visitors. This pristine environment has been marred by careless littering. It was saddening to see the impact of this neglect on such a beautiful place. Determined to make a difference, my family and I, including my 5-year-old daughter, spent 2 to 3 hours cleaning up the waste left behind. It was a valuable lesson for my daughter about taking responsibility for our environment.
The commune could greatly enhance the visitor experience by providing more waste bins and bio-toilets. This would not only keep the area clean but also encourage visitors to dispose of their waste properly.
Final Thoughts
Despite the challenges, the Blue Lagoon remains a place I will visit yearly. Its natural beauty and the joy it brings make it worth the effort. I am committed to bringing waste bin covers and continuing my small efforts to keep this gem clean. I hope more visitors will join in preserving its beauty for future generations.
Visiting the Blue Lagoon in Ekero is a reminder of the delicate balance between enjoying nature and taking responsibility for our actions. Let’s all do our part to keep such places pristine and beautiful.
